Brands That Talk About Mental Health

Updated: Sep 22, 2023

There are three things I truly love talking about: fashion, mental health and marketing. So I decided it was time to combine all three interests here on Online Shopper. I think we can all agree we feel better when we support brands that stand for something. Nowadays people like to see brands that advocate for issues they care about; whether it's mental health, diversity and inclusion, sustainability or other relevant causes. Mental Health is an issue that's near and dear to my heart so I wanted to share brands that talk about mental health and give back in some capacity. Let's dive into these unique companies that are focused on awareness, suicide prevention or positivity promotion.

The Mayfair Group

This is a brand I discovered during the pandemic. My family and I didn't leave our home for months and shopping was one of my only outlets. I think it's safe to say most of our mental health issues were acting up during the first wave of covid. I ordered a sweatshirt from the Mayfair Group that said love is love. It was cozy, adorable and meaningful. The brand boasts 'purposeful apparel' and was founded by Sam Abrahart in 2017.

Rare Beauty

Mental Health QUEEN Selena Gomez launched Rare Beauty in 2019. The outspoken actress created this beauty brand to encourage everyone to feel beautiful in their own skin. Rare Beauty donates 1% of all sales to the Rare Impact Fund, which focuses on access to mental health services for all. This brand has beautiful products that aim to empower. You might have seen this brand going viral on TikTok or in your best friend's makeup bag because Rare Beauty has truly become a fan favorite.

The Happiness Project

Another brand I am proud to profile is the Happiness Project. In my search for brands that care about mental health I stumbled upon them and am inspired by their work. The brand was created in loving memory of Nick Spaid. Founded by Jake Lavin in 2017, the brand donates 15% of profits to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The Happiness Project creates apparel and accessories with mental health mantras and invitations. Learn more about the brand and shop their beautiful collection that aims to do good.

Kate Spade

Kate Spade launched as a handbag brand in 1993 and has become a famous global phenomenon. Built around, what they describe as "modern, sophisticated colors", this brand evokes a feeling of happiness. Sadly in 2018, the fashion icon committed suicide. The brand has made mental health for girls a priority and has pledged 5 million dollars this year to women's empowerment and mental health causes. Check out Kate Spade's beautiful line of clothing, handbags and accessories here.

Here are a few more brands that talk about mental health, health and female empowerment:

  1. Glossier- This powerhouse makeup brand is dedicated to diversity and inclusion. Their Grant Program for Black Owned Beauty Businesses has selected 6 businesses a year since 2020 to fund and support.

  2. DeMellier- I stumbled upon this handbag brand when looking for brands that are dedicated to mental health. Their brand focuses on female designers, ethically made materials and goodwill. With each purchase, DeMellier provides life saving vaccines and medicine to children in need.

  3. I'MMANNY - This unique jewelry brand focuses on three important causes: gender equality, mental health and education. Partnered with charities like the Loveland Foundation, this brand has values you can feel good about.

Final Thoughts

I am a firm believer in openness and authenticity when it comes to mental health. I've always admired people like Selena Gomez who have spoken out about their mental health issues. It's inspiring seeing brands I love supporting causes I care about so deeply. So if you are like me and always looking for a reason to shop, shop for mental health and support these beautiful brands.
